How long have you been a salon owner and what do you enjoy most about being in a leadership position?

We started Urbanbella in 2004 as a retailer and the salon in 2007. What I love most about leadership is the ability to execute and develop a vision. Working with a team of talented individuals and putting something new and different out to the market is extremely rewarding.

What attracted you to the beauty business?

I have always been drawn to beauty and fashion. For the longest time I have wanted to own a spa. Having a salon that focuses on natural hair is the collision of two perfect worlds. I could see that the lack of products, education and styling techniques was creating a huge handicap for women who wanted to embrace their natural beauty. Meeting so many women who want to see the beauty in being natural has provided me with my dream career.

Are you a hair stylist as well as an owner?

While I own and manage the salon, I am not a stylist. Our salon has a dynamic team of talented individuals with over 12 years experience in some of Atlanta’s best salons and top beauty academies.

What’s one hair rule every woman should follow?

Love and embrace YOUR hair texture. This means understanding your hair and what style is best for it, and absolutely understand product needs for your hair. Know that your hair type is like your fingerprint. It’s uniquely and beautifully yours.

How did you come up with the name Urbanbella?

We were looking for something that would have a feminine and pretty feel but a bit of chic city flair. After collaborating with friends, we knew Urbanbella was the perfect name and fit for our brand. Expanding that brand is key to our strategy and we will be offering franchise opportunities in the future.

What makes the atmosphere in your salon unique?

One of the most distinctive aspects about our salon is that it is warm and inviting. The layout is very intimate and at the same time very glamorous, comfortable and classy. Customers love that and the fact that our salon is the only one of its kind where every one of our team members wears textured natural hair. We are living examples of all things that natural hair can be and what our salon guests desire for themselves.
