Bellisima Studios, near Gwinnett Place Mall, was founded by Sharon Gray, whose vision was “offering women of all ages and sizes a unique form of exercise, dedicated to strengthening and toning the core, while unleashing their inner-goddess in a safe, encouraging and fun environment.”
Because of her concern for the health of women, she created and produced the 2nd Annual Pink-A-Licious Party to benefit the Young Survival Coalition Tour De Pink Bike Ride for Breast Cancer. The event was held at Purple Rain in Duluth.
The Saturday afternoon party, hosted by TV personality Rashan Ali, along with radio personalities Twanda Black and Shay Moore, certainly had a great purpose.
At the Pink-A-Licious Party, activities included hula hoop and jump rope contests, a pole dance class and demonstration and a Zumba session. Hypnotiq provided beverages to go along with light hors d’oeuvres. There was a silent auction, several raffles and pink products for sale, all to raise more money for this great cause.
During the event, breast cancer survivor Keisha Hull shared the story of her battle with the disease. Keisha did a self exam just one day before her 30th birthday and a diagnosis of cancer was then confirmed by a mammogram and biopsy, all in less than two weeks.
At the party, she asked each person attending to commit to doing a regular self examination regardless of their age or family history (Keisha’s family had no history of breast cancer).
The American Cancer Society estimates that each year, approximately 70,000 men and women ages 15 to 39 are diagnosed with cancer in the U.S. In 2009, the American Cancer Society predicted more than 190,000 new cases of breast cancer in women.
