Achieve the Perfect Wave With Clampless Curling Irons

Kim Kardashian and her signature waves

Slightly imperfect, tousled yet natural looking waves are among the most desired of hairstyles. But if you don’t curl it just right, that annoying curling iron clamp can leave unnatural dents in your curls causing them to look stiff  and uneven.

Fret no more because hair experts have created a must-have tool in your hair drawer — the clipless curling iron. These curling irons are just like traditional irons, but sans the clamp. Here’s a foolproof guide to getting those perfectly messy waves. The best part is that this style works great on both long and short hair. —mckenzie harris

Curl Up

1. Hold the iron vertically so the tip of the iron is pointing toward the ceiling. Wrap a one to 2-inch section of hair around the barrel with your hand. Some clipless curling irons come with gloves to protect your hands.

2. Leave your hair wrapped around the barrel for 10 to 15 seconds, a little longer for a tighter curl, and release for a soft, natural wave. Alternate the direction you wrap your hair around the barrel for a fuller look.

3. After you have curled each section of your hair, squeeze a dime size amount of shine serum in your hand like Paul Mitchell Skinny Serum, rub together in your palms, and use your fingers to comb it through your curls giving it that desired tousled effect.

4. For a stronger hold, spritz a light holding spray for longer lasting waves.
