Do You Honestly Think Gabby Douglas Would Go to Spelman?

Gabby Douglas, A 16-year-old gymnastics phenom may very well be on her way to one of the most prestigious historically black colleges in the country. Gabby Douglas, the first black American to win the individual all-around Olympic gold medal is reportedly being fiercely recruited by Spelman College, the historically black liberal arts college for women. On Tuesday, the school’s president, Dr. Beverly Tatum, took to Twitter to announce that she and a fellow Spelman alumna worked together to get the teen a bag filled with Spelman goodies while at the London games.

Gabby was later spotted alongside her mother, Natalie Hawkins, with the Spelman bag in hand.  If that wasn’t evidence enough that the teen is on the institution’s radar, Dr. Tatum released a statement to TMZ confirming that they’d be honored to have her enroll at their school.

“A young woman who has demonstrated the drive and discipline needed to achieve world-class excellence is likely to have what it takes to be successful at Spelman, and we would welcome her interest in the college.”

Prior to the Olympics, Douglas was living in Des Moines, Iowa, with a host family while working with trainer Liang Chow. She is currently home schooled.–danielle canada
