Kim Kardashian, Amber Rose, Lil Wayne: Are We Sending the Wrong Message?

Amber Rose went from stripper to superstar in 2 boyfriends.

Kim Kardashian built an empire off of a sextape.

Lil Wayne picks up women like candy bars at the supermarket, and makes the world oogle them as he make room for another.

What message does this send to women as a whole?

That we have to shake what our mothers (or doctors) gave us for fame?  Expose ourselves to public ridicule in order to win the heart of a man who will treat us less than expected, but buy us more than we could ever afford at the old high school gig at Red Lobster?

The media had sculpted the modern day woman to have a 40 inch hips, a reality show, a few pairs of Louboutins, and a sexual list full of somewhat famous men.  Barbie is no longer a woman who wears many hats, pursues respectable careers, and still finds time for family and love.  She is now a slick-talking, Tu-Tu wearing, sex symbol who changes names and alter egos every time someone takes out a camera.

Degrees aren’t as popular as Basketball Wives and it Studying world history won’t get you backstage at Young Money’s next concert.

Is this what we should want for ourselves? Shouldn’t we strive to do better?

Thoughts?
