Nicki Minaj, Beyoncé, Lady Gaga: When Imagination Outshines Reality

It’s easy to forget your favorite pop star is human when they are always in character.  It’s easier for out perception of reality to be distorted when you compare yourselves to the imagination.

Nicki Minaj, Beyonce, Lady Gaga and a number of other stars have built large brands off of their colorful images. Many of these images, emblazoned with wild and sexy costumes, camera-ready makeup and hair, are successful yet recycled ideas that are new to those who were too young to remember the origin.

Beyonce has constructed an image of the perfect wife, mother, and entertainer so durable that people actually believe women can actually survive years and pregnancies in 6 inch stilettos. Not realizing that this was a plan devised between parents similar to the ones we see on shows such as Toddlers and Tiaras. Parents who only want the best for their family and see their children as an opportunity to gain such a lifestyle.   Unfortunately, young girls fall prey to the illusions that we all wait to watch and live to follow.

Lady Gaga is no different! The “Born This Way” star practically went broke trying to keep up with her own fashion creations.  But amidst it all, who can forget about Nicki Minaj. As fun as the colored wigs may be on stage; where little girls and older women alike watch and mimic the Harajuku Barbie’s playful faces, we forget that at your typical workplace or educational center, there isn’t a pink buffont in sight.

But where are all the Real artists? Where are the stars that used to look like us? What happened to the women who promote being YOU – the Real You and loving the skin you’re in?  The one your mother raised to become a classy, well-spoken woman.  The person that your old high school mates and neighborhood friends grew to love.  Why is there such a lack of genuine stars who aren’t selling their DNA for MTV?

If we’re too busy performing a balancing act down the yellow brick road in our ruby red Louboutins, how can we see what really important in reaching personal success and happiness?

Most importantly, what happens when you’re tired of playing the role that made you famous?
