Creativity Gone Wrong: Brooklyn Nets’ Cheerleaders Dance Uniforms
Sep 28, 2012 | Comments 0
Just a few short days ago, the Brooklyn Nets revealed their new dancer’s outfit, which look more like Halloween costumes than anything. Heavy on leatherette, knee-high boots, and prison-ready black and white, these outfits can be described as Destiny’s Child meets Marcy Projects.
Did Beyonce have anything to do with this? We hope not.
The credit/blame goes to costume designer David Dalrymple who has played a major hand in costumes for Sex and the City, The Devil Wears Prada and for major celebrities including Beyonce, Mary J. Blige and Britney Spears.
“The uniforms are feminine and strong,” said David Dalrymple. “This isn’t palm trees and sunshine. It’s New York City, and it’s Brooklyn. It’s a different sensibility. We go hard.”
I hear what he’s saying, but New Yorkers don’t necessarily go to the sex shop to buy the latest fashions either.
Dalrymple, 45, had designed the red and blue costumes for the Nets dancers in New Jersey and was hired to give the outfits an edgy makeover to commemorate the team’s move to Brooklyn.
The outfits are defintiely edgy, however this sin’t the way any team should want to be remembered.
What do you ladies think? Are we being too harsh?
