Eclipsed star Lupita Nyong’o graces the cover of InStyle magazine’s April 2016 spring edition. Draped in a bright green mesh Proenza Schouler dress, the 12 Years A Slave actress has us green with envy, as we usher in spring.

Inside the pages, InStyle Editor Kahlana Barfield put her stamp on the April issue in a personal way, penning a story about “being pretty for a dark skinned girl.” Barfield previewed Nyong’o’s cover as well as an excerpt from her piece via Instagram writing:

“I’ve been called “pretty for a dark-skinned girl” more times than I can count. This backhanded compliment implies that dark-skinned black girls aren’t pretty, and that I’m an exception. COLORISM. When it comes to this topic, everyone has their own story. I’m telling mine in the new April issue of @instylemagazine. So many young girls struggle with their identity, and we have a collective responsibility to teach our children that beauty goes beyond skin shade. Writing this essay was especially meaningful for me, as I am pregnant with a baby girl. If there’s one thing my husband and I will teach her, it is self-love. Use your platform to enlighten and make a difference. Thank you @arielfoxman and @amysynnott for your support with this story and for having the courage to let me tell it in InStyle. || Issue on newsstands March 18th #MyBlackIsBeautiful #LoveTheSkinYoureIn #StayWoke #DarkSkinIsPretty”

Up next, Nyong’o is set to in Disney pictures’ Queen of Katwe and the re-imagining of The Jungle Book. Not to mention the Kenyan beauty has also booked an upcoming project, Intelligent Life, a film directed by Ava Duvernay due out in 2017.

You better work!
