11 Things That Are Horrible For Your Skin

Being famous always seems like it’s a glamorous life, but for most of your favorite celebs, their skin is taking a huge beating. Of course we all know lack of sleep and water can be detrimental to your fresh face, but what are some of the things that most of us don’t think about when those break outs start to.. well, break out. Take a look at our top 11 things that are definitely considered skin abuse:

11. Coffeign

Caffeine is a major culprit when it comes to dry skin. Of course, most of us seem to function purely off of caffeine, but stick close to our good friend water. Even to make water a little more enticing, add fruit slices like orange or lemon to enhance the flavor.

10. Shower Power

While many of us love super hot, long showers, they strip away the outer most layer of epidermis which makes your skin dry and scaly. If you notice often times that your skin is red and looks slightly irritated, you have overstayed your time in the shower. Time to start your day.

9. Gossip Girl

Our phones are pretty gross if you think about it. We leave our phones everywhere and in everything. Think about the gross particles in the bottom of your purse or on that counter at your local grocery store. Hours spent talking on your cell phone can lead to breakouts and rashes along your jaw line and cheek. Make sure to keep antibacterial wipes with you to swipe your phone clean and keep skin clear.

8. The Cool kids

We’re all for wearing big sunglasses on sunny days, but remember to wipe them clean! Bacteria builds up around your nose- where your glasses sit all day, causing breakouts and irritation.

7. Yo-Yo Dieting

Most women know that sticking to a diet is not always an easy task. Between work, social life, and your dating life, it’s not always easy to maintain one weight. However constant yo-yo dieting can negatively impact your skin. Frequent weight fluctuation can cause the fibers in skin to loosen over time creating stretch marks and saggy skin.

6. Sugar & Spice

If you crave salty snacks, and often experience dry skin, you may want to slow down. Excess sodium in your diet can suck the moisture out of your skin leaving it dry and dull. Take your snack money and invest in a hydrating facial moisturizer.
If you have a natural sweet tooth, replace your candy bar with organic fruits- the tropical ones are usually the sweetest. Excess sugar, especially artificial products hurt the collagen nestles in your skin, which causes it to sag.

5. Wax on, Skin Off

Your skin should have a least three weeks to regenerate between waxing; especially in your sensitive areas so resist running to your waxer at the first sight of any new hairs. While we adore that feeling of hairless skin, too much waxing can result in raw skin and increased bumps.

4. Poker Face

It does take less muscles to smile, doesn’t it? Constant movements of the muscles in your skin from facial expressions are what lead to frown lines. To give your skin a rest, and smile more! Also, try to avoid scrunching and pouting your face- it leads to permanent wrinkles and lines in your skin.

3. The Workout Plan

We all know excercise is good for the body, but contrary to popular belief, it is also good for the skin! Exercising helps to increase blood flow and give your face a healthy glow. It also cleans the body of toxins which are expelled during perspiration and cleanses dead skins cells allowing new ones to grow. There are plenty of ways to workout- so take a spin class, grab a workout DVD, or take a run down to that park you drive by everyday!

2. Blame it on the Alcohol

No wonder you’re so thirsty the day after the best parties! Drinking too much alcohol can dehydrate your skin leaving it quenched for moisture. Without that moisture you are more prone to wrinkles and dryness.  Once again, make sure you’re drinking high quality H2O.

1. Makeup Overload

Leaving the house without makeup on may feel like you’re walking around naked for a few minutes, but after awhile it’s kind of refreshing! Allowing your skin to breathe will help prevent clogged pores and breakouts while avoiding premature aging. So take a walk on the wild side – ditch your makeup every now and then.
