Weave Craze: Why Black Women are Choosing Curly Weaves Over Straight

Brazilian, Malaysian, Peruvian weave! You name it, we’re buying it! As time progresses, African American women are flaunting natural curl patterned weave more than ever. The real question is, why are they choosing curly weaves over straight? Is it the exotic appeal or does the pattern match closely to their hair texture? Could either reason or perhaps both, especially since everyone is following the natural hair craze. Celebrities like Teyana Taylor and Solange Knowles wear curly weaves to add fullness to enhance their natural hair.

There use to be a time where Black women only wore straight hair to avoid the “afro” look, but now that natural hair is being embraced, people are kicking it up with curly locks. Some are installing it just to get that compliment, “Oooh girl, you have some good hair!” You know we all have that friend.

Some women prefer weaves to protect their hair from damage and by adding the curly extensions, it makes the hair look more natural. Weaves require less maintenance and with it already being processed, dyed, etc it’s only easier to just get it sewn in.  Straight hair requires more care, ie: flat ironing and heat damages your hair and the hair; whereas with curly weave, you can wash it and put a dab of conditioner in to avoid dryness.

Here are some celebrities who rock curly weaves!
