Up For Discussion: Do Independent Women Run Men Off?
Today, women pay their own bills, buy their own homes, choose the travel destinations, and even take themselves out on dates. Female independence is dominating, making the dating scene that much harder. But for who?
In a recent interview, singer Kelly Rowland revealed that she has to learn to let a man be a gentlemen in order to find and keep her prince charming:
“The desire to be in control and decide everything myself as much as possible gets in the way. The fact that I can act a little bossy has ruined quite a few dates. I choose the restaurant, I open the door myself, sometimes I’ll even pay the bill. I really have to learn to let a man be a gentleman. That’s probably one of the reasons why I’m single. I get in the way of myself when it comes to men.”
Does Rowland have a point? When women take the role of a male in their “relationship”, men can feel as though they aren’t needed … forcing them to exit the picture.
We’ve learned over time how to be more driven, develop that “go-getter” mentality, and that persistence will get us where we want to go and help us make the money we want. This independent mentality can also get in the way of finding Mr. Right.
Are independent women single because they are listening to too many Beyonce song lyrics, taking them to heart about not needing a man and being able taking care of themselves? Beyonce is married, in love, and with a baby on the way … not stressed out and alone on a date with herself … so what are we doing?
Ladies, we say that chivalry is dead, but is it really us who are in the way of our own relationships? Are we getting in the way of letting a man do his job by providing and taking care of us?
Is it time to done down the independence to make room for Mr. Right in the picture?
Speak on it. Do independent women run men off?
