To start off the Fashion Week festivities, Vogue Editor Anna Wintour hosted the launch party for Runway to Win, a fundraising initiative from the fashion world for President Obama’s re-election. Scarlett Johansson also helped co-host the event.
Johansson stated “There is so much at a stake in this campaign,” “2012 will not be easy. We have to fight even harder this time around, and that’s where Runway to Win will make a real difference.”
Some of the designers who participated included, Beyonce, Marc Jacobs, Tina Knowles, Jason Wu and Tory Burch. The event, held at the Theory store in New York, brought together 27 fashion designers who all made relatively low-cost items such as canvas tote bags and T-shirts with Obama images and logos. They are now being sold online, with the profits going to the campaign.
A told by Scarlett Johansson, the items are “wearable, beautiful pieces.”
