Dame Dash is all for an Aaliyah Album
Aaliyah’s brother, Rashad Haughton, was the first to say that he was against an Aaliyah posthumous album. Then earlier this week, Timbaland & Missy Elliot, Aaliyah’s long-time friends and collaborators, released a statement to Billboard that addressed rumors of their involvement with the project.
Although Missy and Timbaland always strive to keep the memory of their close friend alive, we have not been contacted about the project nor are there any plans at this time to participate. We’ve seen the reports surfacing that they have been confirmed to participate but that is not the case. Both Missy and Timbaland are very sensitive to the loss still being felt by the family so we wanted to clear up any misinformation being circulated.
However, Dame Dash, Aaliyah’s former soulmate is all for a new Aaliyah album. Dame recently sat down for an interview with The Juice and gave Drake his support.
Anytime I can hear her voice, that’s a good thing. And anyone that respected her enough to make a record with her, I appreciate ya’ll. I haven’t heard the record, but I appreciate the art of it. I love hearing her voice. I hope it’s something that I haven’t heard before.
Dame isn’t working on the project at the moment, but he says he is open to helping out.
It depends on how he [Drake] wants me to help. I don’t know what I could bring to the table there, but yeah I would do it. Anything involving Aaliyah and it’s positive and the energy [is] right with it, I would be a part of it. My love for Aaliyah will never change.
It’s amazing for the album to get support from a person that was actually close to Aaliyah. Up until this point is seems like the only ones close to her that are with the album are those who can receive a profit from it. Aaliyah had so much more to deliver to the world and it was cut short. It’s a gift to relive those vocals that we were never able to hear.
