Weeks after a terrifying shooting at her Beverly Hills estate, the pop icon resurfaces in the city, quietly commanding attention
Rihanna has never needed much to make a statement. A pair of oversized sunglasses, a navy bandana knotted over flowing black hair, and a camel coat trimmed in dark gray fur — and just like that, the singer and entrepreneur turned an ordinary Sunday arrival in New York City into a quiet masterstroke of effortless cool.
The 37-year-old Barbadian star, born Robyn Fenty, kept things decidedly low-key on the street but unmistakably herself. Dark gray lounge pants and a coordinating button-up sweater anchored the look in comfort, while the fur-accented outerwear elevated it into something altogether more deliberate. It was the kind of outfit that says, simultaneously, I am not trying and I always win.
Absent from the New York outing were her three children with longtime partner A$AP Rocky, also 37. The couple’s family has grown significantly in recent years: their eldest, RZA, turns five in May; Riot, their second son, is two. Their newest addition, daughter Rocki Irish Mayers, was born on Sept. 13, 2025. Rihanna announced her arrival 11 days later with a single photograph on Instagram — a sleeping newborn swaddled in a pink onesie and frilly socks, nestled in her mother’s jewelry-adorned arms. Accompanying the post was a pink bow emoji and a simple caption bearing the baby’s full name and birth date.
The birth of Rocki came months after Rihanna first revealed the pregnancy at the 2025 Met Gala, making the announcement in true form — on one of fashion’s most spectacular stages.

A Frightening Night in Beverly Hills
The quiet New York appearance follows a harrowing episode at the family’s Beverly Hills home. In early March, Ivanna Lisette Ortiz, 35, allegedly drove to Rihanna‘s $13.8 million residence and opened fire with an AR-15 assault rifle. According to a police report obtained by the Daily Mail, the singer was inside an Airstream trailer on the property when she heard what she described to authorities as roughly ten loud bangs against metal.
She pulled back the curtains to find bullet holes in the windshield. In the moments that followed, she woke A$AP Rocky — whose legal name is Rakim Mayers — told him they were under fire, and pushed them both to the floor. No one was injured.
Ortiz has since pleaded not guilty to 14 charges, including attempted murder. Prosecutors allege she drove to the home on March 8 and discharged the rifle at the property. When her case came before a judge earlier this month, a request by her public defender to reduce bail was denied.
Life, Reassembled
That Rihanna would resurface in New York weeks after such an incident — calm, fashionable, and unhurried — feels very much in keeping with the persona she has built over two decades. The singer who gave the world Umbrella and We Found Love has, in recent years, quietly transformed into one of the most powerful entrepreneurs in the entertainment industry, and she moves through the world accordingly.
She and A$AP Rocky, who began dating in 2020 following years of friendship, have built a family with the same low-key confidence that defines her public appearances. Three children, a thriving business empire, and the occasional unannounced walk through Manhattan — by every measure, the life looks like one being lived fully on her own terms.
If the bandana and sunglasses were meant to keep her invisible, they did not entirely succeed. They rarely do.
