After a dominant Atlanta victory, the boxing champion sparked a fresh round of baby speculation — this time with a joke of her own.
Claressa Shields Turns Pregnancy Rumors Into a Punchline
Claressa Shields has heard plenty of pregnancy rumors over the past year. This time, though, she appears to be the one feeding the internet.
Less than a day after defeating Kaye Scott in Atlanta, Shields reacted to a clip from Nightcap that revisited her relationship with Papoose during training camp. Her response suggested she might now be pregnant because of how intensely he celebrated after her victory.
The playful post immediately sent fans into detective mode. But Shields has not confirmed a pregnancy, announced that she has taken a test or said that she and Papoose are expecting a child. For now, it reads more like a cheeky moment from a woman who knows exactly how quickly the internet runs with a headline.
Still, the timing is what makes the joke interesting.

Why Claressa Shields Has Talked About Babies Before
Shields has been open about wanting children long before this latest post. During an appearance on Cam Newton’s Funky Friday podcast earlier this month, she discussed her plans to become a mother and indicated that she and Papoose wanted to have a child in the near future.
She has also spoken about motherhood on The Pivot, describing a desire to have children while she is still young enough to be active with them. In previous social media posts, she has even talked about wanting a larger family.
That history makes her latest joke feel less random. It is also a reminder that Shields has been talking publicly about motherhood while simultaneously navigating one of the most demanding stretches of her boxing career.
And if there is one thing Shields has made clear, it is that she does not plan to choose between motherhood and boxing.
The Pregnancy Speculation Has Followed Her
This is hardly the first time the internet has tried to decode Shields’ body or lifestyle for clues.
In 2025, social media users speculated that she was pregnant after footage appeared to show her with what some viewers believed was a baby bump. Shields dismissed the speculation at the time. Later, fans pointed to drinks she was seen holding at different events as supposed evidence, prompting another round of pregnancy chatter.
The difference now is that Shields herself introduced the possibility — even if she did so jokingly.
That distinction matters. Pregnancy is deeply personal, and internet speculation can quickly turn a playful comment into a supposed announcement. Until Shields confirms otherwise, there is no verified pregnancy announcement to report.
The Fight That Started All the Noise
Before the baby talk took over social media, Shields had already given fans plenty to celebrate.
On Aug. 15, she returned to the middleweight division at Atlanta’s State Farm Arena and stopped Kaye Scott in the sixth round. The victory moved Shields to 19-0 with four knockouts and helped her reclaim the WBA and WBC middleweight titles.
The comeback was especially notable because Shields had spent the previous stretch of her career competing at heavyweight. She reportedly entered camp around 198 pounds and worked her way down to the 160-pound middleweight limit — a 38-pound cut over 14 weeks.
She delivered, too. After dropping Scott in the sixth, Shields continued attacking until Scott’s corner stopped the fight.
Now, Claressa Shields is already looking toward another major challenge. Her camp has expressed interest in a matchup with Britain’s Lauren Price, potentially setting up another significant chapter in her career.
For the moment, though, fans seem more interested in another question: Could the GWOAT be adding “mom” to her résumé?
Only Shields can answer that one.
