The cult-favorite mini canvas totes are coming back in four spooky colors, and history suggests they won’t stick around long.
Trader Joe’s is once again leaning into the season, confirming that its beloved Halloween-themed mini tote bags will land on store shelves later this month. The grocery chain’s collectible totes have become something of a cultural phenomenon in recent years, and this latest release is poised to test just how quickly shoppers can clear the shelves.
When Will the Totes Drop?
According to the company, the new bags — officially named the Trick-or-Treat Mini Canvas Totes — will begin appearing in stores starting Wednesday, September 30. That timing puts the totes on shelves just in time for shoppers to start stocking up on candy, decorations and, of course, the bags themselves before Halloween arrives at the end of October.
What Colors Are Available This Year?
Shoppers can expect the totes in four options: black, green, purple and orange, giving fans a small but varied palette to choose from. Each bag measures roughly 13 inches long, 11 inches tall and 6 inches deep, a compact size the company says works well for everything from trick-or-treating hauls to quick grocery runs. Trader Joe’s has even suggested the bags double as festive gift containers, joking that a tote filled with treats essentially becomes a “boo-bag” for friends and neighbors.

How Much Will the Totes Cost?
As with previous releases in this product line, affordability remains part of the appeal. The Halloween totes will retail for $2.99 each, a price point that has helped fuel their viral popularity since Trader Joe’s tote craze first exploded in March 2024. The bags will be available only while supplies last, and the retailer has not indicated whether it plans to restock once the initial batch sells out.
Why Are Trader Joe’s Totes So Coveted?
This isn’t the company’s first foray into limited-run bag drops, nor will it likely be its last. Earlier this year alone, Trader Joe’s introduced striped pastel totes, an insulated summer lineup and even a standalone lime-green bag that generated its own wave of online buzz. The Halloween version simply adds to an ever-growing collection that has developed a devoted, almost obsessive fan base.
Social media played a major role in last year’s Halloween tote frenzy, with shoppers documenting their attempts to snag one of every color and showing off personalized versions decorated with patches, pins and paint. Influencers regularly urge followers to rush to their nearest location the moment a new drop is spotted, reinforcing the sense of urgency that has become synonymous with the brand’s limited-edition merchandise.
The Legal Fight Over Knockoffs
The totes’ popularity hasn’t come without complications. Trader Joe’s confirmed earlier this year that it had taken legal action against sellers producing unauthorized replicas of its tote designs, warning customers that counterfeit versions have been circulating online. The company has emphasized that its products are sold exclusively inside its physical stores, not through third-party retailers or resale platforms.
That hasn’t stopped a thriving secondary market from forming well beyond U.S. borders. Because Trader Joe’s has no international storefronts, resale listings have popped up on global marketplaces, with some bags reportedly fetching well over $1,000 from buyers overseas eager to get their hands on the coveted merchandise.
With demand already primed from years of viral drops, the Halloween totes appear set to follow the same pattern: a modest price tag, a short shelf life, and a scramble that plays out largely online.
