Naomi Campbell Named Editor-At-Large of Russian Magazine: 3 People She Should Interview

Supermodel and fashion icon Naomi Campbell has been named editor-at-large for the German and Russian editions of Interview Magazine.

In her new role off the runway and behind the scenes, Campbell will have a monthly column called “State of Mind” where she will interview “persons of interest” around the world.

Campbell took a moment to express her excitement in her new position,

Being an Editor at Large is a new role for me and I’m very happy to be involved with such a prestigious magazine and one that I’ve worked with over the years. I’m looking forward to meeting and interviewing people who are passionate about what they do and learning about their interests, whether it be art, fashion, music or other creative endeavors.

She’s penned the introduction for the December edition of the Russian magazine, featuring Leonardo DiCaprio on the front cover. The issue will hit stands November 25th.

While we’re excited the British super model is in an authoritative position, we hope she uses her role in efforts to expand the names of notable African American’s in the fashion industry. Here are the three people we think should be on Campbell’s interview list.

1. Designer Tracey Reese

Tracey Reese is not only a master of her craft at designing feminine pieces that grace the bodies of “real women” beautifully … she’s also one of the most underrated African American fashion designers. Reese has shown her collection year after year at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week and her line can be seen nationwide in major department stores like Saks, Neiman Marcus, and Nordstrom as well as international stores and boutiques. We would love to hear more about Reese’s “State of Mind.”

2. Designer Stephen Burrows

Stephen Burrows was one of the first African American names in the industry. Known for his signature “lettuce hems” and sexy, flowing chiffons, Burrows notably exaggerated stitching instead of hiding it and often used bright colors like red for the thread.

Not to mention, Campbell is a loyal client of Burrows, along with Iman, Cher, and Barbara Streisand.

3. First Lady Michelle Obama

The Fist Lady of the United States has a fashion sense that’s noted daily in almost every major publication and online site in the U.S. Why not spread the love in countries like Russia and Germany? The FLOTUS loves to take inspiration straight from the runway and add her own personal twist to make it White House chic and appropriate. We would love to know the fashion tips and secrets a supermodel and First Lady would share with eachother.

Who do you think should be on Campbell’s interview list?
