The churro-flavored treat returns nationwide with a whole new twist
Taco Bell fans have officially entered the ‘ber months, and there’s a treat worth marking on the calendar. Months after the chain’s massive Live Más Live event in March, where celebrities like Jason Sudeikis and Demi Lovato showed up to hear about a wave of upcoming menu drops, several promised items are still missing in action. The Mexican Pizza Empanada, Cheesy G Slider and Crème Brûlée Crunchwrap Slider have yet to make their debut, and fans have been left refreshing menus for months waiting on updates. But one long-awaited release is finally here, and it comes with a bonus nobody saw coming.
A Sweet Comeback Years In The Making
At the event, Taco Bell teased a new frozen beverage collaboration with beloved ice cream brand Salt & Straw. That drink, now called the Salt & Straw Choco-Waffle Chiller, blends vanilla ice cream with churro crumbles and waffle cone pieces, then tops it off with a crackable chocolate shell, whipped cream and even more waffle bits on top. It’s a callback to the partnership’s viral 2025 debut, when the two brands first joined forces to reimagine a nostalgic frozen dessert that fans still talk about online. The catch is that the Chiller is only pouring at Live Más Café locations in Southern California, Dallas, Houston and Las Vegas, leaving most fans across the country locked out for now and hoping for a wider rollout down the line.

The Live Más Live Waiting Game
Thankfully, there’s a nationwide option too, and it might end up being the bigger win for fans who missed out the first time around. Taco Bell is resurrecting last year’s breakout dessert, the ice cream taco inspired by Klondike’s discontinued Choco Taco, in a brand-new flavor. The original version, dunked in dark chocolate and crispy puffed rice and served alongside Mango Jalapeño and Wildberry Cinnamon sauces, sold out almost as fast as it hit shelves, leaving plenty of loyal customers empty-handed and disappointed. It’s part of a bigger pattern for the brand lately, which has also been reviving discontinued fan favorites elsewhere on the menu to keep longtime customers engaged.
Meet The Churro Ice Cream Taco
This time around, the waffle cone shell and chocolate coating remain untouched, but the filling has been swapped for a Churro Ice Cream that leans hard into the fall spice everyone starts craving this time of year. It landed in restaurants nationwide on September 1 for $3.99, while supplies last, and given how fast last year’s version disappeared, waiting around probably isn’t the move for anyone hoping to actually get one.

So, How Does It Actually Taste?
Curiosity got the best of us, so we tried it ahead of the official release, and it’s giving major fall flavor energy from the very first bite. The cinnamon kick is notably stronger than what you’d get from an actual fried churro, landing closer to a bowl of cinnamon cereal or a glass of horchata than the classic Mexican street treat it borrows its name from. Still, it works, and it’s easy to see why the brand leaned into the churro branding given how popular Taco Bell‘s own version already is with regulars who order it constantly. As for the texture worries carried over from last year, when some customers complained the waffle cone shell turned soggy in the freezer, this batch held its crunch surprisingly well from start to finish. The puffed rice topping does extra work here too, keeping every bite crisp from the first taco to the last.
Should You Rush To Try It?
Taco Bell doesn’t roll out new sweets very often, so when it does, the brand tends to make it count. Between the returning shell, the upgraded flavor and the famously limited supply, this might be the closest thing to a guaranteed sellout on menus right now. If the dessert lineup has felt a little quiet since the brand’s Milk Bar Churros moment, this release may finally be worth the drive-thru trip. Just don’t expect it to stick around for long once word gets out, so it’s probably smart to plan that drive-thru run sooner rather than later this week.
