Two inventive sips and a twist on an old favorite have soda lovers buzzing, and a few purists grumbling
Few everyday rituals rival the crack and fizz of an ice-cold Coca-Cola. Whether someone reaches for diet, classic or Zero Sugar, that first crisp sip tends to feel almost sacred to devoted soda drinkers. Just when it seemed the experience had peaked, the company found a way to raise the stakes once again.
The beverage giant has unveiled its 2027 lineup, headlined by two new Coca-Cola flavors that put a playful spin on combinations fans already know and love. Coca-Cola Cherry Lime and Coca-Cola Strawberry Float will roll out over the course of the year, while sister brand Mr. Pibb is getting its own refresh with a Black Currant variety expected next spring.
A Fresh Spin on Familiar Favorites
Both new Coca-Cola offerings lean heavily into nostalgia. Cherry Lime combines two classic soda-fountain mix-ins, promising a sweet-tart pairing that seems tailor-made for road trips and backyard cookouts. Strawberry Float, meanwhile, aims to capture the old-school charm of an ice cream parlor treat, the kind of drink that practically begs for a scoop of vanilla on top.
The rollout is staggered. Cherry Lime arrives first, landing on shelves in February 2027, followed by Strawberry Float in the summer. The Mr. Pibb Black Currant release is slated for spring, giving fans something new to look forward to nearly every season.

Coca-Cola Reads the Room on Changing Tastes
According to Shakir Moin, Coca-Cola’s president of marketing, the new lineup reflects how consumer expectations around beverages keep shifting. People increasingly want novel flavors and fresh experiences, he explained in the company’s announcement, and many now expect added functionality, too.
Moin added that the sheer scale of Coca-Cola’s portfolio puts the company in a strong position to respond, giving people a wider range of options to suit different parts of their day. It is a strategy built on variety rather than a single headline flavor.
If early social media chatter is any guide, the strategy is already resonating.
Fans Are Thrilled, but Not Everyone Is Sold
Plenty of fans weighed in online. One excited commenter, typing entirely in capital letters, declared that the Cherry Lime news alone has 2027 shaping up to be the best year yet. Another called Cherry Lime a dream come true but saved even bigger praise for Mr. Pibb Black Currant, describing it as pure fantasy and admitting they couldn’t wait to sample every new soda next spring.
A third fan gave a thumbs-up to both Strawberry Float and the Mr. Pibb flavor, saying each one sounded delicious.
Still, the excitement wasn’t universal. Some purists had a much simpler request. One Instagram user playfully called the company cowards for not releasing a straightforward lime version of regular Coke, while another said a Coke Zero with lime is the wish they make on every shooting star.
A Gut-Friendly Experiment Comes First
Before any of the new flavors arrive, Coca-Cola is testing the waters in a buzzy corner of the beverage aisle. The company is entering the prebiotic category with a regional trial kicking off in late October.
The test features prebiotic versions of three zero-sugar favorites: Coca-Cola Zero Sugar, Sprite Zero Sugar and Fresca. Each drink packs 6 grams of prebiotic fiber with no sugar, and supplies will be limited to select areas of New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Shoppers outside those three states will have to wait and see whether the trial expands nationally.
The move signals that the soda giant is paying close attention to shoppers who want their fizzy fix to come with a wellness boost, echoing Moin’s point about added functionality.
The Bottom Line for Soda Lovers
For devoted soda drinkers, the coming year offers a little something for everyone. Fans who crave bold fruit pairings can circle February on their calendars, dessert lovers can count down to Strawberry Float and Mr. Pibb loyalists have a fresh reason to stock up.
And for those still holding out hope for a classic lime Coke, there’s always next year’s announcement. As for everyone else, the smartest move might be the simplest one: try them all.
