Marriage comes with compromises but for Meagan Good, one of them turned out to be her cat. Meagan Good reveals she gave up her cat for her husband. The Harlem actress, 44, recently opened up about rehoming her beloved pet after moving in with her husband, Jonathan Majors, explaining that a growing pack of dogs made the transition impossible for her feline companion, a cat she had named Bam Bam.
Good sat down with host Jonica Booth on the Picture This podcast, published this week, where the conversation turned personal when Booth asked her to name something she once believed she could not live without only to discover she was fine without it. After a nervous laugh, Good had a clear answer: her cat.
Three dogs and one unhappy cat
When Good and Majors began building a life together, he arrived with pets of his own. Two dogs came with him initially, and the couple soon welcomed a third. What followed was a slow unraveling of the household peace that Bam Bam had previously enjoyed.
As the dog count climbed, Bam Bam’s behavior began to shift. The cat started acting out, eventually using the bathroom in the bed a turning point that made rehoming feel unavoidable. Then came the incident that sealed the decision: one of the puppies knocked Bam Bam off an elevated surface inside their home.
Good admitted she initially resisted the idea of letting her cat go. She described missing him and wanting him to stay, calling him her little kitty. But between the dogs, the chaos, and Bam Bam’s increasing distress, she eventually came to terms with the situation.
When Booth suggested that she had chosen the puppy over Bam Bam, Good laughed and offered a more pointed correction she had chosen the man.
A marriage built through public challenges
Good and Majors have been one of Hollywood’s more closely watched couples since PEOPLE confirmed they were dating in May 2023, after the two were spotted together at an Alamo Drafthouse in Los Angeles.
Their relationship formed against a difficult backdrop. Around that time, Majors, 36, was found guilty of misdemeanor assault in the third degree for recklessly causing physical injury, as well as harassment in the second degree, following a domestic dispute. He was later ordered to complete a year-long in-person batterers intervention program.
Good stood by him throughout the legal proceedings, and was photographed alongside him during multiple courtroom appearances.
The couple married and recently marked a meaningful milestone their one-year wedding anniversary on March 18, 2026. To commemorate the occasion, Good shared images from their private ceremony on Instagram, writing a heartfelt tribute to her husband. She described their relationship as the greatest love story she had ever known and reflected on the ways he had changed her life in every sense in ways she had hoped for and in ways she had not known were possible. She signed the post as Mrs. Majors.
A new chapter, with three dogs
For Good, the past year has represented more than just a new marriage. It has meant building an entirely new household dynamic one that now includes three dogs and no cat.
Bam Bam, for his part, was rehomed rather than abandoned, and Good made clear that the decision was not made lightly. It came down to the reality of the space, the animals, and what worked for everyone involved including, ultimately, her relationship.
Good was previously married to pastor DeVon Franklin. Their divorce was finalized in June 2022.
Her marriage to Majors represents a new chapter one she has spoken about with evident joy, even when it came at the small, furry cost of her beloved Bam Bam.
